A Personal Review

Explora Journeys, a new company from the MSC Group, is much more than a cruise—it is a floating all-inclusive resort.  It doesn’t even have cruise in its name.  This 461 all suite yacht- style vessel has six restaurants, 12 bars/lounges (4 outside), and four swimming pools including an infinity pool.  There are 301 Ocean Terrace Suites (a spacious 377 sq. ft .suite), 70 Grand Ocean Terrace Suites, 67 Ocean Penthouses, 22 Ocean Residences, and 1 Owners Suite.

Explora I, the first of six Explora ships, debut this past August.  The rest of these stunning ships will follow within the next six years.

It was a wonderful and indeed a magical experience even though there were some unforeseen circumstances with medical emergencies and weather issues.  The windy conditions closed the Sky Bar on Deck 14 and even the swimming pool on Deck 12 occasionally

Due to the windy weather, we did not get an opportunity to enjoy the many outdoor pools, so the Conservatory Pool , with its retractable glass roof, was one of our favorite areas. .

There are some wonderful spaces on this beautiful ship, especially the Conservatory pool as mentioned and all the pools, the Malt Whiskey Bar, and next to it Explora Lounge.  Another favorite place was the Lobby Bar which features a two-story wall of liquor bottles. And they serve a delicious chocolate martini.

All but one of the restaurants have included dining.  We enjoyed very much the Emporium Marketplace for our breakfasts and lunches and some dinners too.  Fil Rouge offering French- inspired international cuisine and the Med Yacht Club featuring Italian and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine were outstanding; and Marble & Co., where the steak cut like butter and practically melted in your mouth, was truly exceptional.  We did not part-take in Sekura, the Pan Asian restaurant.  Anthology is the only restaurant to have an additional charge. There was also 24 hour in suite room service.

Additionally, there is Crema Café offering a variety of coffees, pastries, and finger sandwiches.  It is the only spot open between meals, so may be hopping in the mid-morning and mid- afternoon,

Explora Journeys is family friendly with the Nautilus Club for children and teens. This space features a variety of video games, tabletop games, and board games.  Explora offers a range of Destination Experiences designed for families with kids and teenagers in mind.   There are 74 connecting suites to accommodate these families.

Some wonderful touches were the motion lights in the suites and the rubber strip on the closet bar so the hangers don’t slide around. The walk-in closet and dressing area are large enough to accommodate two adults easily.  Luxury is in the details.

This was a wonderful experience,  and we can’t wait to answer your questions
